EditCell Virology Platform
Summary | 1. Identification of host factor, which is required for virus replication, by “EditCell Virology Platform”.2. The host factor will be as a target to develop antivirals.3. The antiviral effects of the candidates can be validated in vitroin vivo.4. Two FDA-approved drugs are repurposed for COVID-19 treatment. There are still many viruses treat to human, but no effective antivirals against them. The “EditCell Virology Platform” can be used to screen the important factors involved in virus replication, then these factors can serve as targets for antiviral development. Furthermore, we can verify the antiviral effects of the candidates in vitroin vivo to identify effective antivirals against viruses. Based on our previous studies, we have successfully determined two FDA-approved drugs can reduce viral load of SARS-CoV-2. Now, we are seeking collaborations with pharmaceutical company for clinical trials. The development of antiviral is important for human to fight virus infection,it is also closely related to global economy. Moreover, the rising number of COVID-19 deaths caused by SARS-CoV-2 around the world. COVID-19 pandemics is not only a threat to human lives, but also global economy. Therefore, the researchdevelopment of antivirals are important for application of biomedicalpharmaceutical industriesclinical treatment in the future. |

Mitochondrial Analytic Platform and Nucleotide Applications
Summary Description: 1. Stress alters mitochondrial import of proteins. To monitor changes in mitochondrial import at single-mitochondrial resolution, split GFP epitopes are fused to the target proteins and mitochondrial membranes or expressed in the mitochondrial matrix. 2. General genotoxic agents damage both nuclear and mitochondrial DNA. By expressing mitochondrial DNA binding protein TFAM fused with KillerRed, specific mitochondrial DNA damages by light exposure are induced for investigating mitochondrial DNA damage signal. 3. Quantification of four dNTP pools is important for understanding drug action. The popularity of the analysis has been limited by the requirement of radio-isotope or sophisticated instrumentation. The method of click reaction we designed for measuring dNTPs overcomes the drawbacks of conventional methods. 4. The outbreak of drug-resistant Candida infection in hospital is of concern. We found the distinct biochemical property of Candida TMPK in high affinity to uridylate as the substrate, leading to the discovery of 5FUd (<5 nM) in suppressing Candida growth.

A powerful moisturizing lotion for skin repair and regeneration
The International Center for Wound Repair and Regeneration of National Cheng Kung University transferred and established Ducolege Biotechnology Co., Ltd., using Extre2Cold exclusive extraction technology to extract highly active marine collagen from Tilapia fish skin, which is type I collagen with a complete molecular structure and has a three-stranded helix structure. It is biologically active and perfectly presents the magical ability of fish skin to repair wounds. It can be widely used in biomedical materials and academic research. It is currently first promoted in the development of high-level medical beauty repair and maintenance products, which is helpful for repairing damaged skin.

The P. monodon Nucleus Breeding Center and a Commercial Seedstock Expansion site
After a period of strict quarantine, these animals are continuously screened with the twin goals of finding specific pathogen-free shrimp seeds while maintaining genetic diversity. The best representatives of these two sub-goals are then selected for production at our commercial P. monodon shrimp seed expansion site in Hualien.

High entropy alloy as anode material of lithium-ion battery
In the prior art of high-efficiency anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, we designed a high-entropy composition and manufactured it through a simple and mass production method. This technology inherits the cocktail effect of high-entropy alloys by combining highly active elements and metal elements. This material can be manufactured by a simple mass production method. It shows high energy density, high Coulomb efficiency and high cycle stability, and becomes a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries.

High Entropy Alloy Nitride Hard Coatings Prepared by Cathodic Arc Deposition and Their Applications of Micro End Mills
The technology uses cathodic arc deposition combined with electromagnet field control and optical emission spectroscopy (OES) for the deposition of new functional high entropy alloy (HEA) nitride coatings. The HEA nitride coatings possessed such high hardness and excellent hydrophobicity with low surface energy which are beneficial for high speed dry cutting. Finally, the coatings were deposited on the micro end mills for cutting test of printed circuit board. The HEA ACZN coated tools can possess high wear resistance and outperform the uncoated tools at least 4 times of tool lives.
